Studio Etiquette

Please respect and follow the below to help our space continue to be the inclusive Third Space Community we all deserve:

  • All students must sign in at the front desk before each class. This makes sure we know who is there, who to still expect, and we can properly track your passes.

  • Students are to remain downstairs until the Energy Exchanger has finished cleaning between classes to ensure an effective and efficient turnaround of the space and equipment.

  • To make sure everyone has a nourishing, uninterrupted practice, there is no entry to either studio after a class has started. Doors open to WHY 15 minutes before each class and students are asked to find their spots on their mats at least five minutes before the start of class.

  • Cell phones must be silenced when at WHY and are not to be used in the change rooms or in either studio during classes. If you are on-call during your practice, you must get permission to bring your cell phone to class with you each time. If you absolutely need to make a call or use your phone before or after class, please do so in the lounge.

  • Smartwatches must be placed on silent, do not disturb, or elevator mode, and all students are asked to refrain from checking these devices while in the studios. If these requests cannot be adhered to, we will have to make the studio rooms tech-free spaces and watches will no longer be permitted. We promise whatever it is can wait until your practice is over and you are out of the studio.

  • Students only need their mat, towel, water, and, if they have them, tools for class (blocks, straps, etc.). All other personal items, including bags, jackets, cellphone, and keys should be left in the change room. If needed, locks for the lockers located in the change rooms are available at the front desk for your use.

  • Students should only enter the studio rooms when they are changed and ready to stay for class to help avoid disruptions to other students’ practices.

  • Silence should be maintained in the studio rooms during yoga asana practice. We love our community and can’t wait to catch up with you in the lounge area of our space before or after class.

  • All students should attempt to stay in the room for the entire duration of the class to avoid disrupting the practice of others. If you are feeling light-headed or dizzy or need to catch your breath, take child’s pose, any seated pose, or lie down on your mat until you have recovered. If you must leave the studio space, please do not immediately go down the stairs. We ask you that you first take a seat on the bench in the hallway outside of the stairwell to settle your nervous system and acclimate back to the regular temperature of our space before attempting to return to class or continue down the stairs to the change rooms.

  • All items that are left behind are put into our lost and found; however, you should retrieve your belongings as soon as possible, as all lost and found items are donated to charity at the end of the month. Unfortunately, WHY is not responsible for personal items that are donated or have gone missing. As noted above, lockers and locks are available for any valuables you would like to have secured during your practice.

  • Showers are available for student use in each change room. Please keep showers short to preserve water and to be courteous to others who may be waiting to use the facilities.

Thank you for respecting our space and our community—together, we make it awesome.
